In Germany most of the Knippenbergs live in Nordrhein - Westfalen and Niedersachsen. In the Netherlands most of the Knippenbergs live in Limburg and Friesland.

The first time a Knippenberg was mentioned was in 1309 at Stift Essen, Germany.
