Sigurd, Elizabeth & Miya Knippenberg

I am Elizabeth.

In June of 2001, I started working part time for a company called Verizon Advanced Data, Inc. I am also attending school full time to get my bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering. This was an arrangement that Verizon set up with my college. I work for Verizon full time in the summer and part-time when I am attending classes at Capitol College. I work there as a central office technician. I (with others) monitor our equipment on the east coast and resolve maintenance problems with the equipment.

In May of 2001 Sigi and I celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary. Hopefully there are many more to come.

On January 1, 2001 Moira turned one year old.

From August 2000 until June of 2001 I worked for a company called Excel Communicationsas a Switch Technician. I was responsible for the installation and maintenance of voiced circuits on the T1 and T3 level using Alcatel's DMS600E and Titan digital cross connect machine. I left them so that I could go back to school full time.

In March of 2000 my pet prairie dog, Sage, passed on. A few weeks later we got a cairn terrier puppy and named her Moira. Cairn Terriers are small, smart, and engergetic dogs. They have to be walked and played with every day or they can get mischevious and distructive when they too much energy and are left unsupervised. However, cairns are excellent pets and if you are considering getting one, try to get one from a reputable breeder. Here are two excellent sites to visit if you are considering one as a pet: Cairn Terrier Club of America and American Kennel Club. We had her spayed at 3 months old by the Lucky Ones Animal Rescue league. They do low cost spaying and neutering operations.

In July of 1999 I started working for MCI WorldCom in Washington, DC. I was a Network Systems Engineer, responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of various T3, T1, and Voice grade circuits that got through the terminal (office) where I worked. I worked with Nortel's DMS 250, various Alcatel Equipment, and many different M13 multiplexing equipment. Multiplexing equipment is used to combine several different circuits and combine them into one, new, bigger circuit.

In May of 1999 Sigi and I moved into our first house. It is in the town of Laurel, MD. Visit our pictures page to see some photos.

In October of 1998 I started working for TYC Associates, Inc. as a technical writer. I developed testing plans for various software projects that the company was developing. I also wrote user manuals, and supervised some of the other testing personnel.

In October of 1997, I started working for Siemens Business Communications Systems out of Baltimore, Maryland. I was a customer engineer, traveling to different customers to maintain and service their telephone switches. I worked with Siemens' 9200 PBX's and voicemail. A PBX is a small (relatively) telephone system that is used within a company location. It can also be networked with PBX's in other locations.

In August of 1995, I began attending Seminole Community College in Central Florida. There, I completed my two-year degree in Telecommunications. While pursuing my degree in Telecommunications, I was also an apprentice with the Siemens Stromberg-Carlson ETAP program and also completed a two year degree in Liberal Arts. During my apprenticeship, I was trained in metalworking, electrical wiring, analog and digital electronics, prototyping, and troubleshooting. I also learned basic networking concepts and CAD.

If you want to learn more of the skills I have, you can look at my resume.

On June 2nd of 1996, I met my husband Sigi. We met on a chat site, Italia Online. We became very good friends that summer, and when he came to the US on a holiday, we soon fell in love. We married on Saturday, May 3rd, 1997.
